ScienceIndex.com is a mathematics sciences social network established in 1998 to index the very latest news, headlines, references and resources from science journals, books and websites worldwide. The site covers news in all fields of biology, business, chemistry, engineering, geography, health, mathematics and society. In the field of Mathematical Sciences, the site has now included the two new categories Informatics and Statistics. While the Informatics category covers emotional and behavioral characteristics of individuals, groups, and activities, the Statistics category covers radioactive substances in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

ScienceIndex.com’s Mathematics Sciences Category covers the structure, algorithms, behavior, and interactions of natural and artificial systems that store, process, access and communicate information. Its two subsections include Informatics and Statistics. Users can receive alerts if new content has been posted in this category by subscribing to ScienceIndex.com’s Mathematics RSS feed.

ScienceIndex.com’s Informatics category covers the study of information processing and computer science. It currently contains 71,018 articles partly derived from 468 scientific journals. The latest articles in this category are also available through an Informatics Sciences RSS feed. One of the latest additions in this category covers methods, approaches and practice of an e-Science data infrastructure for simulations within Grid computing environment. This article illustrates how to build a lightweight e-Science infrastructure for data management within a Grid computing environment, including the integration of data curation activities into the entire Grid-based simulation process. The authors also present a comparison between their approach and Cloud computing, and lessons learned in data management within the Grid computing environment. Another recently published article in this category helps understanding traffic locality of peer-to-peer video file sharing systems. The authors examined P2P locality to address the challenge of traffic pressure to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) over inter-ISP links. Their results suggest that the peer in few ASes are more likely to form large AS clusters and most ASes on the Internet do not have enough potential for locality.

ScienceIndex.com’s Statistics category covers the collection, classification, analysis, and interpretation of numerical facts or data. It currently contains 8,320 articles partly derived from 78 scientific journals. The latest articles in this category are also available through a Statistics Sciences RSS feed. One recently included article in this category introduces the use of aggregate data to estimate the standard error of a treatmentcovariate interaction in an individual patient data meta-analysis. The authors present methods that use aggregate data to estimate the standard error of an IPD meta-analysis treatmentcovariate interaction for regression models of a continuous or dichotomous patient outcome and their results indicate that the estimators have good accuracy. Another recently published article compares T-optimality and neural networks for building experimental designs. The authors conclude that the optimal solutions obtained by the two algorithms are similar, nevertheless, the differences between the paths followed by the two algorithms to reach optimal values are substantial.

ScienceIndex.com currently contains over 1.55 million stories distributed among 75 categories. 76,992 users monitor 9,284 journals covering the broad spectrum of sciences. Since new science content is discovered in real-time, the delay between original publication and appearance at ScienceIndex.com is no more than two days. ScienceIndex.com provides an advanced search feature which suggests up to ten closely related articles for a search and every selected story.
